Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar recently hosted a one-day workshop focused on the art of icing cakes. Organised by the Department of Home Science, the workshop aimed to provide students with practical exposure and essential skills in baking, a crucial aspect of home science education.

The keynote speaker for the workshop was Jhanvi Chadda, an alumna of the college and proprietor of ‘Bakes and Flakes’ studio. Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, emphasised the importance of practical learning in home science and applauded the initiative to provide students with hands-on experiences to enhance their skills.

During the workshop, Jhanvi Chadda shared valuable insights and baking tips with the students. Stressing the importance of patience in baking, she highlighted the significance of slow baking and careful ingredient selection. She advised against baking cakes at high temperatures and emphasised the need for creativity to excel in the field.

A highlight of the workshop was the hands-on experience provided to students in crumb coating cakes. Jhanvi demonstrated various techniques using fresh fruits and different types of nozzles, enabling students to create visually appealing cakes. Participants had the opportunity to make Mango Delight and Chocolate Mousse Cake, gaining insights into the intricate process of cake making.

The students actively engaged with the resource person, posing questions about potential career opportunities in baking. Jhanvi Chadda informed them about the rapid growth of the baking industry, where cakes have become an integral part of celebrations. She encouraged aspiring bakers to explore the diverse opportunities available in this expanding field.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra commended Dr. Monica Anand, Head of the Department of Home Science, for her efforts in organising the successful workshop. The event not only provided students with valuable practical skills but also inspired them to consider baking as a potential career path in the dynamic culinary industry.

Overall, the icing cakes workshop at Apeejay College of Fine Arts served as a platform for students to enhance their baking skills, gain industry insights, and explore exciting career prospects in the thriving baking industry.
