Apeejay has always strived to make learning an exciting and immersive experience for its students. In this spirit, the young learners of class II at Apeejay School, Noida recently embarked on a delightful culinary journey that not only stirred their creativity but also instilled in them the importance of eating healthy and nutritious food. The theme for this engaging activity was ‘animals,’ and the result was a feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.

The Primary department of the school came alive with the aroma of freshly prepared club sandwiches.  And, these sandwiches were far from ordinary! The children had the opportunity to explore their artistic flair as they crafted sandwiches into various animal shapes, sparking their imagination and innovation.

Students used an array of ingredients that were not only visually appealing but also packed with nutrients. Bread slices, transformed into different animal shapes, were the canvas for their culinary artistry. Tomato rings became the bright and cheerful eyes of their edible animal creations, while cucumber slices provided vibrant details. The inclusion of olives brought a touch of sophistication to their animal-themed delight. .

As the young chefs enthusiastically arranged, and designed their sandwiches, they were learning valuable life skills such asteamwork, creativity, and fine motor skills. The event helped them in developing essential abilities for their future endeavours.

One of the most remarkable aspects of this activity was the absence of fire. The students learned that delicious and healthy meals can be prepared without heat, a crucial lesson in an era where healthy eating is gaining prominence. This no-cook approach emphasised that children can make delightful dishes on their own while staying safe.

The students enjoyed the process of making delectable dishes and understood the importance of maintaining a balanced and nutritious diet. They also learned that eating healthy can be fun and delicious. With this their colourful and imaginative animal-shaped sandwiches were a powerful visual reminder that nutritious food can be exciting and appealing.

Sushma Bhatla, a Primary teacher at Apeejay Noida, expressed, “The goal was to facilitate experiential learning. To further this, the activity was aimed to promote the concept of cooking without fire. Involving children in such activities is crucial for them to grasp the significance of self-reliance.”.”

Furthermore, the theme acted as a link, connecting the culinary adventure with the realms of wildlife and the natural world. This was evident as the students used various ingredients to craft imaginative animals, including rabbits, octopuses, and even fish. Through this learning, they not only engaged with food but also developed a sense of responsibility toward their environment. It’s an example of how education can be made exciting and relevant, imparting lessons that extend beyond textbooks and classrooms.

Apeejay School, Noida, is committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals.  Students of the school are armed to excel in academics as well as develop life skills and values that serve themthroughout their lives. This activity was just one of many examples of how this institute is shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
