The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) postponed the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test-Post Graduate (NEET-PG), originally scheduled for Sunday (June 23). It cited growing concerns over paper leaks in national-level exams. The decision came a day before the exam, impacting over 1.5 lakh registered medical students.

The MoHFW announced that this postponement was a precautionary measure. The ministry stated, “In light of recent allegations regarding the integrity of certain exams, we have decided to thoroughly assess the robustness of the NEET-PG entrance examination procedures for medical students.” The ministry emphasised its commitment to ensuring that the exam processes remain strong and impartial.

A fresh date for the NEET-PG exam will be announced as soon as possible. The ministry expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the students, stating, “This decision has been taken in the best interests of the students and to maintain the sanctity of the exam process.”

The NEET-PG exam is conducted by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), an autonomous body under the health ministry. This exam is a crucial step for medical graduates to qualify for postgraduate courses.

This postponement follows the delay of another major exam, the Joint CSIR UGC-NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NTA has faced criticism over irregularities in conducting the NEET-UG exam and the cancellation of the UGC-NET due to a leaked exam paper on the darknet.

The postponement of NEET-PG aims to address and prevent further integrity issues in national-level exams. The health ministry’s comprehensive evaluation of the exam processes underscores its dedication to maintaining the credibility of these crucial assessments for medical students.
