Himani Sehgal is pursuing an MBA in Finance from Apeejay School of Management (ASM). The final-year student, who joined the institute in 2020, has attended college virtually throughout. Despite having missed out on campus experiences, Himani is happy with her overall journey. In an interview, Himani, who has got a job at ICICI Bank via campus placement, and her mother Neha, share their experience. Edited excerpts:
How did you come to know about ASM? What prompted you to take admission here?
Himani: I wanted to go for an MBA and what made ASM stand out was its highly impressive faculty. That was one of the primary reasons for choosing ASM. I got to know about the college from social media after which I visited the campus.
Neha: We found ASM to be a better college than some of the others we checked out. Besides, it was comparatively closer to our residence in Aligarh. I visited the college with my daughter, interacted with the faculty, and was impressed with the overall experience.
What was your visit to the college like?
Neha: Besides the faculty, we also spoke to some of the students who were present there. They gave us good feedback about ASM. All of this impacted our decision to enroll our daughter in this college.
Why did you opt for an MBA in Finance?
Himani: Prior to MBA, I had studied Commerce. I was always interested in Finance which is why I thought of pursuing this course.
Tell us about the classes and your overall experience so far.
Himani: I have been attending the classes virtually from Aligarh although I visited the campus 2-3 times. From the campus to the decorum and curriculum, everything is good at ASM. Thanks to their support, I also secured an early placement at ICICI Bank in the Customer Relationship Management (CRM) profile.
Neha: Since I have personally witnessed how my daughter’s classes are conducted, I can say that the professors are very good. Having listened to the lectures sometimes, I know many of the faculty members now. My daughter has had regular classes throughout the period.
Himani: The faculty is very cooperative. I got very good mentors who guided me throughout. I contacted them whenever I had any doubt and they always helped me. The overall experience has been wonderful.
Does the curriculum focus on practical knowledge and skills to get students industry-ready?
Himani: Prof Kamal Kishore, dean, ASM, got us to work on live projects. The college also organised virtual guest lectures by industry experts. These helped us a lot.
How did the placement cell help you get the job?
Himani: We had regular training sessions, including mock interviews. The team coordinated well throughout. We would continuously get inputs from them.
Can you share some tips for cracking campus placement?
Himani: The one thing I was taught, and which eventually helped me, was that the first 60 secs of an interview is the most crucial. You need to be confident, polite, and maintain eye contact. Of course, you have to be very thorough with the concepts.
What is your dream job?
Himani: Five or six years down the line, I would like to see myself as a financial consultant in a good company.
