Recently, Apeejay School, Noida, hosted an orientation workshop on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA). The session was led by Mr Adil J Mirza, Chief Business Officer at ExcelOne. Known for his expertise and engaging approach, Mr Mirza guided the teaching staff through the key aspects of PISA — its framework, purpose, and what it means for students and educators alike.
PISA, an initiative by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), evaluates how well students can apply their reading, mathematics, and science skills to real-world situations. Unlike conventional exams that test how much a student can recall, PISA is all about how well they think, reason, and solve problems.
The global reach of PISA
The workshop underscored the global scope of this assessment. More than 90 countries take part in PISA every three years. The results provide powerful insights that shape teaching strategies and influence education policy. For India, joining this global evaluation is a step toward aligning its learning outcomes with international standards.

At Apeejay School, the orientation marks the beginning of this journey. As the school prepares to implement the PISA model, the workshop served to clarify what lies ahead and why it matters.
The session wasn’t just informative; it was dynamic. Educators took part in thoughtful discussions, asked questions, and explored the broader impact of these assessments on classroom teaching. The mood in the room reflected genuine interest and a shared goal: to raise the bar for student learning.
More importantly, the workshop acted as a catalyst for change. Teachers left with a clearer sense of how to adapt their teaching to match international benchmarks. This includes placing greater focus on critical thinking, decision-making, and practical application of knowledge.
Laying the groundwork for change
For Apeejay School, Noida, the PISA orientation is more than a training session. It’s a step toward redefining educational goals. By equipping staff with a deeper understanding of the PISA framework, the school is laying the groundwork for assessments that reflect both national and global expectations.

In many ways, this workshop planted the seeds for a more holistic, future-ready learning environment — one where students are not just tested but truly prepared for the world beyond the classroom.
