Navjot Singh Aujla, a Class XII Non-Medical student at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, recently received the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values. In this interview, he shares how he incorporates these principles into daily life and guides his peers.
Read edited excerpts:
Congratulations on receiving the Dr Stya Paul Award. What does this recognition mean to you?
Thank you! This award feels like a true honour because it recognises the values I try to live by. It motivates me to continue being helpful, respectful, and disciplined, not just at school but in all areas of life. For me, it’s a reminder that small actions, like helping someone without expecting anything in return, can make a big difference.
How do you practice these values in your daily life?
I try to make values like honesty, respect, and kindness a part of everyday actions. For instance, I help classmates when they need guidance or support and always try to treat everyone with fairness. At home, I follow routines and discipline, like waking up and sleeping on time, which my family has always emphasised. Even small gestures, like listening to someone patiently, matter a lot.
As a senior, how do you guide younger students?
I believe leadership is about showing the right path through example. I advise juniors not only on academics but also on behaviour, respecting teachers, and making good choices. I try to inspire them to think critically, perform well, and develop into good human beings. Leadership, to me, is not just authority—it’s responsibility.
What human value do you think students often overlook?
Honesty. Many students sometimes cheat in exams or avoid responsibilities, but being truthful is something that builds trust and character. I feel honesty is the foundation of all other values.
Beyond academics, what activities bring you joy?
I enjoy spending time with friends, playing games, and painting. Sketching is my favourite because it helps me focus and express my creativity.
What are your aspirations after Class XII?
I aim to pursue a career in civil services or defense services, where I can continue helping people and contributing positively to society.
