Selecting the right school for a child is a thoughtful and often demanding process. But for some parents, there is an emotional connection with Apeejay School; they have been students here themselves. Wanting their child to study at the same school takes centrestage for them. Therefore, it was not surprising for the parents of Nihansh (gone in KG), Shalini Kumari Singh and her husband, to choose Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park.
“We have an emotional attachment to Apeejay. My husband is an alumnus of Apeejay, and so is his brother. My husband was very attached to the school, so he wanted our child to study here as well,” the mother shared.
In an impromptu interview, she talked about her overall experience with the school, among other things.
Could you tell us a little about Nihansh and how he has progressed at the school?
When he joined the school, he was a very introverted child. But now I can see that he has become more extroverted. He participates in all activities, and his vocabulary and writing ability have both improved. Earlier, he wouldn’t sit at home to write anything, and I was worried. But now he can write and has started making sentences using sight words that were taught to him.
How did the teachers help your son adjust well to the school environment?
The teachers here are humble and kind and know how to handle every child. My child is a bit stubborn, but they managed him so well. My son is attached to his teachers and prefers that they continue with him in KG as well.

How has your overall experience been with the school?
The overall experience has been excellent. All the teachers and staff are wonderful. I am glad that my son is thriving here.
Has the school supported any unique talents or interests that Nihansh has?
Yes, definitely. His first assembly performance made me nervous because he had never been on stage or in front of so many people. But his teacher guided him so well. He performed confidently, and we were pleased. I have a fear of the stage, so watching my child perform was a proud moment.
Apeejay School also focuses on instilling values in students. What values has he learnt so far?
He has started respecting elders, although he still has some stubbornness, like every child. But yes, we’ve seen improvement. Just the other day, when I was leaving for the office, he said, ‘You wait; I’ll give you your bag’. It was so sweet. These are the values he’s learning at school. Of course, we also teach him at home, but the school plays a major role.

How does the school involve you as a parent in your child’s learning?
There’s a WhatsApp group for the class, and the teachers keep sharing updates and activities. The school module is also very helpful for us as parents. And the teachers are supportive and guide us with whatever issues we may have.
Being a working parent, how do you manage discipline and quality time with your child?
My son is stubborn, but when he goes to school regularly, he becomes disciplined. During school days, he follows a routine. But once school is closed, he does whatever he wants. On weekends — Saturday and Sunday — since I don’t work, I spend more time with him.
