‘My kid is a coronial. For him, it’s development first’

B.Tech in Information Technology, Ms. Sonamoni Guha, is an educator who prepares students for competitive examinations. Her son, Pratik Guha Dey, is just about 3 years old. He is a student at Apeejay Rhythms Kinderworld School, Greater Kailash –II.  What made her choose this school for her son? She says, “It is the overall development. Education is only but a part of the puzzle.” In the following interview, she shares more. Read the edited excerpts here.

Were you aware about Apeejay before enrolling Pratik in the school?

Yes. My husband, Mr. Anupam Dey, a General Manager with IDBI Bank helped me with it. For us, this was quite a crucial decision. So, we asked around, researched and took some feedback from our friends and family. Amongst them, someone suggested Apeejay. Both their daughters had studied there. Then we read more about Apeejay’s wide-spread institutions and pedagogy. We also visited a few pre-schools before taking our pick. But, it won’t be wrong to say that we had already made up our mind before visiting Rhythms.

So, did Rhythms meet your expectations during the first visit?

Definitely. It had everything we wanted. Right from the entry gate to the main reception. Moreover, further interaction with the Headmistress and other staff members, the experience was great! Kanika Ma’am, Komal Ma’am, Yukti Ma’am, were extremely supportive. So, we were mighty impressed.

During our visit, I conveyed my thoughts freely to the educators. I felt that they understood what I wanted and delivered exactly that in due course of time. It has been a few months now and I feel blessed. Apeejay is more like a family to me.

What kind of learning did you have in mind for Pratik?

For me, it is development first. Then comes academics. Pratik is just three, so it is necessary that he is aware about his surroundings and his understanding of the world begins in the right manner. He has been at home for the past 2.5 years due to Covid-19. And so, his exposure has been quite limited. He has only seen adults and never got a chance to make friends or be with his peers.

Therefore, whatever is taught in the school, is everything he is learning. My focus has been to make him understand the world beyond the four walls. In doing so, the school is collaborating with us in a big way.

Tell us more about your last experience with the school.

We went on a zoo outing. It was fantastic! Before that, I have only been introducing the different birds and species to Pratik through books. But now, he understands them holistically. His observation skills have improved manifold.

Your message to fellow parents?

Rhythms is a great school! I would highly recommend it. Its teachers impart lessons by being on the same level as the kids. Therefore, the learning experience for my son has been fulfilling.
