Aarti Puri teaches Mathematics, thematic English, and General Knowledge (GK) to class I students at Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector 15. Even after being associated with the school for nearly 15 years, she continues to derive motivation and inspiration from her students. It is her immense love for her job that helps her cope with the challenges that come with the profession. The primary teacher tells us more about her journey in an interview:
What inspired you to become a teacher? How long have you been in this profession?
It was my childhood dream to become a teacher. I have been in this profession for 19 years.
According to you, how has classroom teaching changed over the years?
New technology and experiential learning have brought big shifts in classroom teaching. That said, I have been using innovative methods and experiential learning at Apeejay for a very long time now. The progression and developments in classroom teaching are showing remarkable results. But I must say, personal connection with students is always the most important thing in teaching.

The job of a teacher is not easy. What keeps you going?
Very true, the job of a teacher is indeed complex. But if you enjoy teaching, you will love this job. I love to be with children. The connection that a teacher makes with her student — seeing a child improve with time, develop skills, and enjoy the class makes me happy. I love teaching. I enjoy being a facilitator.

How do you manage work-life balance?’
Time management is life management. I do yoga, dance, and participate in social activities along with my job. As the proverb goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way.”
What’s your mantra for managing a class efficiently?
Connecting with my students is the first thing I do. Proper planning is very important. Keeping resources ready before executing, being flexible, and keeping yourself updated with new technology is essential.
