Thematic learning is an integral part of Apeejay’s pedagogy. For the uninitiated, this form of teaching is based on the exploration of broad subject areas under one theme, to ensure a connected and integrated form of learning. Thematic teaching is carried out according to a detailed pre-designed lesson plan. It is commonly associated with elementary and middle schools using a team-based approach. Through this, students are known to learn better as they are able to identify relationships and connections across time, place, and disciplines.

In line with this teaching method, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, organised lesson plans themed on animals and birds and engaged students of classes nursery and KG in interesting activities based on the theme.

Through the activity, the little ones understood the value of co-existing in the environment with birds and animals and were able to identify with them. While being introduced to biodiversity, they were curious to know about the diverse forms of fauna, the different places they inhabit, and the way they live.

The students enthusiastically participated in discussions about nesting, laying eggs, migration, and spring. Children loved to learn about the world around them and made connections with familiar topics. They were encouraged to step outside their classrooms and walk into nature’s lap. The Apeejayites even role-played their favourite birds and animals and recited poems.
