Lavish Gupta is a final year student at Apeejay Stya University, Gurgram, who aspires to become a financial analyst in the future. Why so? Because Lavish believes he possesses those skills that are key requirements to be part of a financial sector. “I am a detail-oriented person, I have a curious mind as well as I enjoy helping others. Hence, I want to pursue a career as a financial analyst because it will allow me to combine my analytical habits with my desire to assist and serve people,” mentioned the 20-year-old Apeejay student, who recently got placed in SN Capital Management Pvt. in Noida.

The corporate race begins

Lavish, who will soon be completing his BBA programme from School of Management Sciences, is eager to start his journey in the corporate world with one of the renowned organisations that provide financial consultancy and treasury solutions using Strategic Financial Instruments. “This is my first job and so, I was very excited and happy when I got the offer letter,” he expressed, adding that, “I am looking forward to learning more new concepts including gaining in-depth knowledge about stock market and pre-IPO concept, which is new for me.”

Cracking the placement

As Lavish always aspired to work in the financial sector, he focused on creating his resume relevant for the industry, with the guidance from his mentors at Apeejay. “I also referred to NSE’s Academy Certification in Financial Markets that provided some of the modules covering different areas in finance,” he said. Lavish further emphasised that it’s also important to keep updating oneself on every news related to finance and stock market.

Apeejay’s mentoring process

Lavish opines that mentoring sessions by faculty members held on campus are of great help. He said,  “My mentor, Professor Manish Sharma, was very helpful during the entire placement process. He helped me to develop a range of skills including communication, problem-solving, thinking as well as guided me on how to create a strong CV that would increase the possibility of getting hired.”  He also mentioned that several extracurricular activities are organised at Apeejay Stya University and participating in those helped in increasing his confidence.

Future plans

In addition to his dream of becoming a successful financial analyst, Lavish also plans to pursue an MBA programme. He has already cracked the CAT 2022 with an overall score of 97.52 percentile in his first attempt. When asked why he wishes to go for an MBA, he replied, “Basically, an MBA will hone my skills to not just grab the best offers from the industry, but also help me become an entrepreneur (if I plan to).” Laughs.
