In a dedicated endeavour to fortify the foundations of early literacy, the Pre-Primary wing of Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector-15, orchestrated a noteworthy workshop on the acclaimed Jolly Phonics programme. Aimed at parents with children in the nursery to class I, this enlightening session illuminated the crucial role that Jolly Phonics plays in the formative years of a child’s educational journey.
Jolly Phonics, an internationally recognised phonics programme, has garnered widespread acclaim for its efficacy in laying a robust groundwork for language acquisition. This workshop served as a conduit for parents to delve into the intricacies of the programme, arming them with invaluable insights into its fundamental principles and proven methodologies. The emphasis of the event on phonics is pivotal, as it stands as the cornerstone of early literacy, propelling young learners towards proficient reading and writing skills.

Participants were not only familiarised with the theoretical underpinnings of Jolly Phonics, but also equipped with practical and effective strategies for implementing this programme at home. These strategies are meticulously designed to provide children with a holistic learning experience, one that transcends the confines of the classroom.
A noteworthy facet of the workshop was its hands-on approach, wherein parents engaged in a series of interactive activities and were introduced to a plethora of resources tailored to reinforce phonics learning. This experiential component is paramount in ensuring that parents are well-equipped to actively participate in their child’s educational journey, thereby fortifying the parent-school partnership.
The school deserves commendation for recognising the significance of a well-structured phonics programme in early education. By hosting this workshop, the school has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to providing a holistic and enriching learning environment for its young charges.

Speaking about the event, Ritu Kanwar, Headmistress says, “During coffee sessions held at the school, many parents were curious to know about Jolly Phonics. Hence, we decided to conduct the workshop to equip parents and make them understand how it works. As part of it, we organised an array of activities for them and their kids to understand letters with the sounds. Through these exercises, they were able to learn the methodology involved in it. In addition, all the parents appreciated the efforts of the school in making their ward(s) learn.”
The direct interaction with teachers was a salient feature of the workshop, affording parents the invaluable opportunity to seek expert guidance, share their own experiences, and seek clarification on any queries pertaining to the teaching of phonics. This open channel of communication further underscores the collaborative approach adopted by Apeejay in fostering a supportive learning ecosystem.

The workshop organised by the Pre-Primary wing of Apeejay School, Faridabad Sector-15, stands as a testament to the school’s dedication to nurturing young minds with a well-rounded and effective educational foundation. By empowering parents with the knowledge and skills to actively engage in their child’s phonics education, the school has forged a vital link between the home and the classroom. This endeavour is a resounding endorsement of Apeejay’s commitment to educational excellence and the holistic development of its students.
