Body Positivity: Embrace your own self

Published

on

Body positivity is a social movement focused on the acceptance of all bodies, regardless of size, shape, skin tone, gender, and physical abilities, while challenging present-day beauty standards as an undesirable social construct.

The perception of our bodies has been tainted because of today’s critical society. The generation of today is running after ‘perfection’ – the perfect body shape, perfect body size, and perfect colour. When they don’t reach that level of self-satisfaction, it tends to make them feel insecure about themselves.

We’ve created this stigma that a beautiful person is the one who has the perfect body, which is not true at all. Within imperfections lies that flickering light that is struggling to survive along with all the darkness that we’ve brought upon ourselves.

Whenever we think of body positivity, a question comes up, how do we reach that level of positive strength, where we can feel comfortable about our bodies?

It’s all about how we perceive ourselves. It doesn’t matter what the world thinks of us, when we think that we are the best, it is when we’re the best version of ourselves.

This society may not accept us but we have to accept ourselves. There’s a difference between accepting ourselves and being accepted. Approving ourselves is one of the hardest things, but when we do it, it’s going to be worth the wait. We will ultimately reach a point where we can say, “I approve of myself.” That’s when the journey to self-love starts. It takes a great amount of courage to be able to love ourselves.

Embrace your flaws, make them a part of your identity, and be proud of them, we don’t need to hide them.

Body positivity may be a social movement, but it starts with us. Be your own leader and lead yourself in the journey of self-love.
