While the world focuses on the present, the young one can never deny or ignore the lived experiences and wisdom of the past. The previous generation may not be ‘cool’ for the current youth, but it is imperative that they learn from their lessons and advice.
Apeejay School of Management (ASM) in Dwarka has always valued their alumni, for they know the rich treasure of experience they carry with them. As part of its Alumni Mentorship Programme, the B-school recently invited alumna Vrinda Bansal to conduct a training session on the topic “Ace that Interview”.
Interview skill is a major asset in today’s day and age. ASM is aware that like most skills in the world, cracking an interview is also a skill that one acquires with time, practice and the right guidance. Interview facing ability opens various vistas for a student as s/he gains the confidence and mindset necessary to crack an interview along with acing the underlying ‘trick’ questions.
Thus, students enthusiastically took part in the online discussion and were thrilled with the programme content and delivery. Ms Bansal conducted the session sharing key insights and giving tips with a hands-on approach, focussing on the “objective of a one-on-one job interview, and ‘how to answer the ‘tell me about yourself’ question.”

She iterated, “The first step towards cracking an interview is to be well-prepared.” She further helped students write their bespoke answers to the self-introduction question incorporating elements from their personal and professional journey.

She mentioned, “Follow the present-past-future structure. A present statement talks about your current role in detail. Tie your skills to a new role and share your key accomplishments and awards. Remember to talk about education and certifications if you’re a fresher.”
Ms Bansal also added, “In the past statement, mention your highest qualification and the relevant certifications. Do mention the motivation behind the career shift and tie it with the current role. Speak about classes or projects if you’re a fresher and highlight the skills or personality traits you explored through that process. In case of an industry change, it is valuable to explain your experience in a different industry and provide you with a uniquely valuable perspective towards the current one.”
She emphasised “Lastly in the future statement, align your personal goals with the company’s vision. It always adds to show that you have researched about the company. Align their mission statement with your expectation from the role. Do add what your passion and strengths are at the workplace and what all you can add to the vision.”
