R K Pranav is a very talented musician studying at Apeejay School, Pitampura. At such a young age, his prowess with the piano is simply jaw dropping. The music maestro has recently earned the Certificate of Achievement for attaining the highest marks in North India in Classical Piano Grade 5 by Rockschool, London (RSL). In a quick chat, Pranav lets us in his musical world and tells us about his inspiration in this interview. Read edited excerpts:

Since when did you start playing the piano and what inspired you to choose this instrument?

I started playing piano when I was just four years old. My mother, who loves music, inspired me to take it up. From a young age, I was drawn to music, and with her encouragement, I chose the piano as my instrument.

Congratulations on earning the Certificate of Achievement for High Achiever in Classical Piano Grade 5! Can you tell us more about this amazing accomplishment?

I received this certificate for achieving the highest overall marks in North India for Classical Piano Grade 5, awarded by Rockschool of London (RSL). It was an incredible honor and a reward for all the hours of practice I’ve put in.

How much time do you dedicate to piano practice, and what has your training journey been like?

I practice for about 30 minutes to an hour every day. My journey in music began at the age of four, so it’s been a long but rewarding path. Over time, I’ve built a solid foundation and improved my skills step by step.

Have you tried composing any original pieces?

Yes, I’ve started working on a few original tunes of my own. Composing is exciting, and it lets me express myself creatively on the piano.

Who is your favorite pianist, and what do you admire about them?

My favorite pianist is Ludwig van Beethoven. I love his composition Fur Elise – it’s incredibly expressive and a piece I never get tired of playing.

How does your school support you in pursuing music?

All my teachers at Apeejay School, Pitampura, especially the music teachers, have been really supportive. They encourage me to participate in music competitions, and I’ve been a part of the school orchestra for the past few years. Their support keeps me motivated.

Do you sing as well, or is piano your main focus?

Yes, I do sing from time to time! But the piano is my main focus – it’s where I feel I can express myself best.

Finally, what are your future goals with piano playing?

I plan to continue with my music journey and aim to complete Grade 8 in Classical Piano. That’s my immediate goal, and I look forward to achieving it in the coming years.
