Hands-on learning activities play a vital role in early childhood education. They not only make lessons more engaging but also build essential life skills such as problem-solving, coordination, and communication. The young learners of LKG and UKG at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, recently participated in a series of interactive Subject Enrichment Activities that brought their classroom concepts to life in fun and imaginative ways.
In the LKG section, students explored the concept of reverse counting in Mathematics through the activity Let’s Count Backwards. Using number flashcards from 10 to 1, the children arranged them in descending order, which helped reinforce their numerical understanding playfully. The tactile experience of physically handling and arranging the cards made abstract concepts easier to grasp.
In Environmental Studies, students showcased their understanding of the spaces in their homes by identifying and describing different rooms. This exercise not only boosted their observation and vocabulary skills but also encouraged public speaking and confidence as they talked about familiar environments.

Adding a touch of life skills to their day, the little learners were also taught the importance of cleanliness and organisation through a clothes-folding activity. They practised folding garments neatly, which helped instil discipline and the habit of maintaining a tidy home from a young age.
Meanwhile, the UKG students dived into the world of size comparison through a hands-on activity based on the concept of Big and Small. Children picked various classroom objects and sorted them into two circles — one representing “big” items and the other for “small” ones. This playful activity not only deepened their understanding of spatial awareness and size differentiation but also enhanced their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
Such well-planned enrichment activities are instrumental in laying the groundwork for holistic development. They bridge the gap between theory and practice, making learning both meaningful and memorable for young minds.
The activity was a delightful blend of education and enjoyment, reflecting Apeejay School’s commitment to nurturing young learners through experiential learning.
