Language learning becomes truly joyful when combined with play, creativity, and curiosity. This was beautifully reflected in the ‘मात्रा मंथन’ activity held at Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad for Class 1A students. The session was designed to strengthen the Hindi language foundations of the little learners in an engaging and interactive way.

The central focus of the activity was helping students differentiate between the sounds and usage of ‘इ’ (short vowel sound) and ‘ई’ (long vowel sound). While this can be tricky for beginners, the young minds took on the challenge with enthusiasm and confidence.

Learning through Play

The classroom was transformed into a vibrant learning hub, where students explored Hindi through games, flashcards, and word-sorting tasks. With cheerful energy, they:

Spotted differences between छोटी मात्रा ‘इ’ and बड़ी मात्रा ‘ई’.

Practised pronunciation, listening carefully to how the sounds change a word’s meaning.

Categorised words into groups, sharpening their vocabulary.

Even acted as mini language detectives, correcting small errors and boosting their accuracy.

The children actively engaged in the exercises, holding up flashcards, reading aloud, and working in teams. Their radiant smiles reflected the joy of learning by doing. Teachers, too, encouraged them with warm guidance, making the atmosphere lively and confidence-building.

Building Confidence and Curiosity

More than just a Hindi exercise, the activity nurtured critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills. By blending language lessons with fun, the school ensured that students not only learnt the correct use of मात्राएँ but also developed a love for the subject. Such activities reinforce that learning is not confined to textbooks, it is an adventure full of discovery.

The ‘मात्रा मंथन’ activity truly highlighted how play-based learning can make even complex concepts simple and enjoyable. The initiative was a wonderful step in making young learners more aware, expressive, and confident in their language journey.

With their growing curiosity and creativity, these little champions are already on their way to becoming articulate and thoughtful communicators.
