Young Author: ‘Nature is important in every way’

When children develop the habit of reading, something powerful begins to take shape. Books spark curiosity, sharpen observation, and quietly build confidence. Over time, that curiosity can turn into expression, transforming young readers into thoughtful writers with ideas they feel ready to share. Meet one such student, Advik Singh, from Class VI, studying at Apeejay School, Greater Noida.

In a candid interview, this budding writer says he is preparing to write the second book as well.

What inspired you to write a book on nature at such a young age?

Whenever I go for walks in my society, I notice a lot of garbage around. I feel it is not fair. Nature gives us so much, so why should we harm it? That thought stayed with me. I wanted people to understand how we are damaging nature and what we can do to protect it. That is why I wrote my book, Nature.

Is there any particular aspect of nature you feel most connected to?

I feel equally connected to every part of nature. Each component has its importance. If even one part disappears, the balance of nature is disturbed. Everything is linked. For example, rivers provide fertile soil to land and forests, which helps plants grow.

What new things did you discover while writing the book?

I learnt many interesting facts about forests, animals, rivers, and oceans. One shocking fact was that humans cut down around 15 billion trees every year. I also found it fascinating that butterflies take nectar through their legs.

Did you receive any support while writing the book?

I wrote the book during a school initiative, Bookalooza. My parents encouraged me to read about nature and explore my surroundings. They listened patiently to my ideas and gave me the confidence to complete the book.

How long did it take, and what challenges did you face?

It took me about one and a half months. My biggest challenge was making the book interesting. So I added fun facts in every chapter. I wanted readers to learn something new while also enjoying the experience of reading it.

What message do you want to share, and what’s next?

I want kids my age to understand nature and protect it. If I write another book, it will again be about nature, but I would like to explore mountains more deeply.
