Two budding orators from Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park recently represented their school at the Hindi Debate District Competition, marking a proud moment for the institution. After securing third position at the district level, where the most accomplished speakers from top schools across the district competed. Meet Anvi Sharma and Anvi Gupta of Class XI who captivated the audience with the power of their words.
Participating in the district-level debate was a completely new experience for the duo. “We went to the Hindi Debate District Competition and scored the third position, and the event was held at Andhra Education Society in Pushp Vihar,” Anvi Gupta recalls. The atmosphere was far more challenging and vibrant than previous rounds. With only the winning teams from each zone present, the competition naturally became intense. “It was a much larger and more competitive platform, and being surrounded by such skilled speakers made the experience both exciting and memorable,” Anvi Gupta shared.
The topic for the debate—“Everyone should receive a Universal Basic Income”—was relevant, thought-provoking, and invited strong arguments from both sides. Talking about her preparation, she shares, “When my teammate and I discussed the topic, we felt that speaking for the motion suited my voice more. I also had strong pointers that aligned well with the stance, so I chose to argue for सभी लोगों को बुनियादी सार्वभौमिक आय मिलनी चाहिए.” Facing well-prepared opponents pushed her to think on her feet, frame clearer arguments, and maintain composure throughout her speech. “Every speaker came with solid preparation, which challenged us to stay confident under pressure. Although it was tough, the experience was incredibly enriching,” expressed Anvi Sharma.
I am really grateful to my teachers for encouraging me throughout the competition and providing insightful guidance whenever needed
Both the girls proudly credits her school for playing an essential role in her growth as a debater. “Apeejay School supported my debate journey by giving me regular opportunities to participate in competitions and inter-school events,” she says. The encouragement and guidance from teachers helped refine her delivery and strengthen her arguments. “My teachers constantly motivated me, corrected my weaknesses, and helped me become a more expressive speaker. Their support made a big difference,” they shared.
Reflecting on what she learned, she emphasizes that growth is continuous. “My biggest takeaway from this competition is that improvement is a continuous journey. Competing here showed me how much I can grow when I stay disciplined, and also how much I can learn by observing others.” Watching talented speakers from different schools inspired her to explore fresh perspectives and improve her debating style further. The experience broadened her horizons and deepened her understanding of what it takes to excel at higher-level competitions.
Gratitude remains at the heart of her narrative. “I am really grateful to my teachers for encouraging me throughout the competition and providing insightful guidance whenever needed. I am also thankful to my school for constantly giving such opportunities to students and helping them build confidence, skills, and a vision for their future,” Anvi Sharma said in conclusion.
