The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for implementing the National Credit Framework (NCrF). These guidelines will be applicable to institutions involved in Higher Education, Vocational Education, Training and Skilling (VETS), and School Education. The NCrF was initially approved by the central government in April last year as part of the National Education Plan, following which a High-Level Committee was formed to oversee its implementation.

UGC Chairman, M. Jagadesh Kumar, described the SOPs as a major advancement toward achieving a dynamic and inclusive education system. He emphasised that the framework aims to equip learners with relevant skills and knowledge for the 21st century. According to him, the NCrF will enhance transparency and flexibility in the education system, ultimately contributing to the creation of a skilled workforce to support India’s economic growth.

The UGC stated that the NCrF SOPs are designed to offer a clear guide for the assignment, accumulation, storage, transfer, and redemption of credits across different levels of education, including school, higher, and vocational education. These procedures are expected to streamline the credit system and make it easier for students to navigate their educational journeys, ensuring that the credits they earn can be efficiently utilized and transferred as they progress through various stages of their education.
