Celebrating festivals like Onam in schools goes beyond the fun and colour. These events instil values of inclusivity, respect for diversity, and cultural appreciation in children from an early age. They provide experiential learning opportunities, nurture social bonding, and ensure that young learners grow with a sense of identity, belonging, and global understanding.
The festival of Onam was celebrated with immense joy and enthusiasm by the little KG-A stars of Apeejay School, Noida, in a special assembly. The celebration beautifully reflected the cultural richness of Kerala and the values of unity and gratitude associated with this vibrant festival.

The programme commenced with a short yet engaging introduction about the significance of Onam. Teachers and students highlighted the legendary story of King Mahabali, whose reign symbolised prosperity, equality, and happiness for all. The narrative helped the young learners grasp the underlying message of Onam — the spirit of togetherness and the importance of community bonding.
Adding colour and delight to the occasion, the tiny tots came dressed in traditional attire, transforming the atmosphere into a lively festive celebration. One of the most eye-catching highlights of the event was the creation of a stunning Pookalam (floral rangoli), designed meticulously by the children. The burst of floral colours not only enhanced the festive mood but also introduced the children to an integral tradition of Onam.

The assembly further came alive with a spirited dance performance by the little stars, set to a traditional Onam song. Their lively expressions and graceful moves drew cheerful applause from the audience, making the performance a true show-stealer. The joy on their faces was a reflection of the festival’s essence, celebrating unity, love, and cultural pride.

The celebration turned into a memorable and meaningful learning experience for the young children. It enabled them to understand the importance of respecting and embracing diverse cultural traditions while creating cherished moments of fun and togetherness. The vibrancy of the programme reaffirmed that even the youngest students can shine bright and inspire joy on a grand platform.
