In this cut throat competitive world, finding a suitable job and earning good income has become the most important consideration. But there are parents like Manoj Bisht, father of Hardik Bisht, studying in Apeejay Panchsheel Park, who propounds that a child’s progress is not measured only through the paycheque he will receive every month end. In fact it is the happiness quotient that will determine his son’s wholesome value.
Excerpts from the interview
Tell us something about his tabla journey.
My son usually spends 8 hours at the school. And in this scenario, we preferred that our son pick up a talent that will stay with him for life. He developed a deep interest in learning tabla and chess from a young age and we as parents supported him in this decision.
How did you select Apeejay as an admission choice?
There were a couple of things that really impressed me about this school. First is the word of mouth which was immensely positive. All my friends and neighbours around had only good things to say about this school. Second is the fact that Apeejay gives high importance to extracurricular activities along with a well-planned education system which go a long way in developing a child’s personality.
How are the teachers at the school?
All teachers at the school are very approachable. My son is hyperactive and I have seen how sophisticatedly teachers handle him at the school, which is really appreciable. I am overwhelmed to see such a grand support extended by teachers to my child.
How often do you interact with your son?
I keep a full check on my son’s overall growth including his school updates. Since he is in class X, it’s his Boards this year and I have observed that the teachers make extra efforts to make children learn concepts better through worksheets. Even then the teachers don’t believe in putting any undue pressure for studies over students.
Has the school created any positive impact on your son?
I have to tell you, the impact is huge. My son has started to groom himself so well and understands the value of being well dressed, which is a big positive addition to his personality. He has learnt the importance and value of time management now, he is devoting time to his studies and is involved in self-study sessions now. He is now taking responsibility for his growth and personality.
How is his school journey so far?
Hardik aspires to take Science in XI and XII going forward and pursue engineering. His dream is to become an astronaut someday. We as parents never believe in pressuring him to take up any subject stream, so he is planning to do what he is actually interested in. We have always told him to work hard because his marks will determine his future ahead.
How much do you agree with the adage – school is the second home for a child?
In my son’s case, school is the first home for him. He spends the majority of his life hours in the school, he meets his friends there and stays put under teachers’ guidance. At home he spends limited time usually. So for me, school has a great influence over his holistic growth.
