The School of Legal studies (SoLS) of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram, recently organised a guest lecture on the topic “Jurisdiction and Powers of punishment of criminal courts”. The informative session was attended by the students of SoLS.
Dr. Teena, an Assistant Professor at G.D Goenka University, was the guest speaker for the session. The session began with a brief introduction on Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and its functionaries under CrPC.
Further, the expert explained the basic legal terms as FIR, cognizable offence and non-cognizable offence, inquiry, investigation, complaint confession, etc., in a layman language.
She also highlighted the important sections of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973. In addition, she briefly explained about the Jurisdiction cases in various offences. The session became very interesting during the Q&A round in which the students were able to grasp the points via real-life examples.
