Charvee, an alumna of Apeejay Svran Global School, lists the reasons why medicine became her calling

Charvee was always clear that she wanted to be a doctor. With an avid interest in science from the junior classes coupled with witnessing the heroics of doctors during Covid-induced lockdown, she simply became surer that MBBS was her next step. 

In a quick chat, the alumna of Apeejay Svran Global School talks about life in the medical field and her ambitions in the white coat. Read edited excerpts: 

Charvee, which branch of medicine will you be specialising in?

Most probably it will be Radiology but I am still deciding and taking some more time. 

Why Radiology?

I have been fascinated towards Radiology and I always wanted to diagnose people. I do not want to go into the surgical branch, so this choice is best for me. 

 Were you clear about becoming a doctor during your student years? 

I joined Apeejay Svran Global School in the third grade. My science teacher then was simply too good. It is thanks to her teaching that my interest developed in Science and then I went onto pursue this stream in my senior secondary years. 

 And another reason, a big influence was the lockdown, where all the doctors were frontline workers. Doctors worked so hard. Our nation couldn’t have been saved  without them. We couldn’t have survived without them! A big thanks to all the doctors out there. 

That is indeed true! Now brief us about your time at the school?

I was a lot into art and craft, dance events and I was also excellent in sports. I was chosen as the best female athlete in class 10 in the school sports day after the 100 metre and 500 metre races. I was really good at athletics. Plus, in the class, we all got individual attention and the principal of my time knew each and every child by their name. That felt reassuring and warm to us. 

 And how is MBBS coming along?

It is tough! I have to be honest about this. But I wanted this for myself and I am loving it every minute. If you have the interest, you can do it for sure. From the first year itself, we are given a hectic schedule, so that we can learn to manage the stress of work in the future.
