Most parents go with the recommendation of family and friends when it comes to selecting a school for their children. And then some parents are more meticulous than others when it comes to choosing the right school for their child. They want to give their children the perfect stepping stone that will help the kids make a name for themselves once they grow up. Meet Kanishka and her husband, Anubhav Lakhmani from Nerul, Navi Mumbai.
Kanishka is an assistant professor so her checklist was a little longer than most parents. “But I am like any other parent. My husband and I wanted a school that was affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The good part is that Apeejay School, Nerul in Navi Mumbai is one of the best CBSE Board schools in the area,” Kanishka said.
Excerpts from an interview.
You are an assistant professor. Did you have a longer checklist than most parents?
I would not say that I had a longer checklist when it came to choosing the school for Preksha Lakhmani but yes, my husband and I had a few questions in mind before deciding on a school. Some of the parametres that were looked at were the legacy of the school, what Board they had, the quality of education, the overall development of the child, how experienced the teachers were, proximity to where we live, and the infrastructure. We also looked at whether the school inculcated human values like kindness, gratitude, and giving back to society to name a few. We wanted a school that practiced all this at their school.
We did thorough research on the schools that were in our area and that is when we came across the name of Apeejay.
What are some of the things that impressed you about Apeejay?
There were a couple of things that impressed me when I saw the school. I found that the teachers of this school are highly adaptive to change. This was evident from online teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Another thing that impressed me is that every child in the school is focused on their overall development and growth.

How is the parent-teacher interaction?
I only have one word to say when it comes to parent-teacher interaction – excellent. To elaborate, the teachers are very prompt in their replies whenever I have a query. I get regular feedback from them.
The teachers are very good. Besides the academic focus that the teachers have, they also teach punctuality, discipline, and how to be polite and caring
–Kanishka Lakhmani, Mother of student at Apeejay School, Nerul
What is the teaching methodology?
What I like about this school is that the school uses a perfect blend of traditional and the latest techniques of teaching. There are few schools I think can do this so well.

How has been your daughter’s learning curve?
Has been amazing. It is constantly increasing. I can see that she is constantly learning. But most importantly what I observe is that she is taking interest in learning new things, and new concepts which is an important aspect of child growth.
How are the teachers at this school?
They are very good. Besides the academic focus that the teachers have, they also teach punctuality, discipline, and how to be polite and caring. The teachers also inculcate the right values among children.
Would you recommend Apeejay to other parents?
Yes, definitely! I would say that it is a good school and a perfect fit for my daughter. This is what we were looking for in a school. I am happy so far.
