Looking for the right school is a daunting task. This exercise becomes tedious when parents are in a transferable job and looking for a new school in a new city is challenging. Yet parents do everything in their power to ensure that they choose the best school there is in the new city. Meet one such parent — Mr Sukhneet Singh, whose children Harseerat Kaur (class VIII) and Harjas Singh (class V) were recently enrolled at Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg.

“I have a transferrable job and recently moved to Jalandhar from New Delhi. For the children, the move can be unsettling since they leave their friends and a comfortable school environment to move to a new city and school. The onus of choosing the right school becomes even more important. But we were lucky since we ended up choosing Apeejay for our kids,” the father said.

In a candid conversation, he talked about the challenges he faced while shifting to a new city and how Apeejay School eased the family’s worries.

Challenges that you faced when you were searching for a school once you relocated to Jalandhar.

The most important challenge was to look for a school that not only puts effort and emphasis on the study but also the extracurricular activities. I also wanted a school where teachers didn’t change frequently. My daughter is in class VIII and I was looking for a school that would groom her as she moved to higher classes. I searched for many schools and found that Apeejay is the best school because my children came from Delhi. I am glad I chose Apeejay.

How did the counselling sessions help in finalising your decision?

The admission counsellor I met at Apeejay was excellent. He told me everything there was to know and answered all my queries. He was patient and explained in detail how Apeejay School was different from others. He explained the benefits and other things I would get here. This made it easy for me to make up my decision.

What were the specific aspects that helped you make up your mind?

The specific aspects were approachability, extracurricular activities, infrastructure, and well-experienced and great teachers.

Are your children participating in some activities?

My daughter is a tennis player and will join tennis, but due to some travel restrictions, she is currently playing cricket where we live. My son is playing football.

How do extracurricular activities help a child?

Extracurricular activities help in the practical approach and mindset development of a child. They boost confidence, reduce stage fear, and help in personal development and interaction with others.

How would you describe the environment of the school?

It’s too early to tell each and everything about the school, but they took admission a few weeks back. But overall, it’s good. Initially, my children took some time to adapt, but now they are happy.

How did you learn about this school?

I searched many schools and visited several schools. I also spoke with a professor from Apeejay College at length. She spoke at length about the school and said that Apeejay is good academically and for overall development. I also spoke to a few parents who recommended this school. When I visited the school the staff and the teachers were welcoming.

Are there any facilities or infrastructure that stood out for you?

What stood out for me was the infrastructure of the school, smart classes, sports facilities and extracurricular activities.
