She is at present in Class X at Apeejay School, Noida. Last year (2024-25), she was honoured with the Principal’s Award. She also had the privilege of being the Head Girl in Class VIII, which was a wonderful leadership experience. “Along with my academic pursuits, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in several shows, advertisements, and even a movie, which has allowed me to explore my creative side. I’m interested in pursuing the PCM stream (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics) post-Class X, as I have a passion for these subjects and am considering a future in engineering or other related fields,” said Chhavi Verma.

In a candid interview, the recipient of the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values, for the academic year 2024-25, talks about what the award means to her.

What was your reaction when you came to know you had been selected?

I was overjoyed and felt a sense of accomplishment when I learnt that I had been selected. It made me realise that hard work and dedication truly pay off. At the same time, it motivated me to continue striving for excellence in my studies and extracurricular activities.

What does this award mean to you?

This award recognises my efforts and reminds me of my responsibilities. It encourages me to work even harder and to pursue my passions with more dedication. It’s a step towards realising my goals, and it inspires me to make a positive impact in the future.

An aspect of Dr Stya Paul that you want to imbibe.

Dr Stya Paul’s vision of holistic education is something I admire deeply. He believed in nurturing not just academic excellence but also character, creativity, and compassion. I want to imbibe his value of constantly striving for excellence while staying grounded and compassionate toward others.

Values you have learnt from your parents.

From my parents, I have learnt the importance of honesty, hard work, and respect for others. They have always emphasized that success is not just about achievements but also about maintaining integrity and kindness, regardless of what challenges you face.

How have the school and teachers helped you value human values? Why are they important?

The school and teachers have played a crucial role in helping me understand the importance of human values like empathy, responsibility, and teamwork. Through various activities, discussions, and even day-to-day interactions. These values are key to building not just academic success, but also meaningful relationships and positively contributing to society.

Are you involved in any charity work or associated with voluntary work?

Yes, I am actively involved in charity and voluntary work. I am a part of the Interact Club at school, where we organise drives to donate clothes, books, and other essentials to the less fortunate. Additionally, my family and I are members of the Lions Club, and we regularly participate in initiatives to help the less privileged in various ways.

How do you follow human values when people around you don’t?

I believe it’s important to remain true to my principles. I try to lead by example, showing kindness, respect, and patience, even when others might not. Sometimes, having a calm and empathetic approach can encourage others to reflect on their actions and, hopefully, adopt more positive behaviours.
