“Doing good for others without expecting anything in return is one of the greatest lessons I’ve learnt,” says Jasnoor Kaur, a bright Class VI student from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, who recently received the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values for her exemplary values and character. Deeply inspired by her teachers, Jasnoor believes that kindness and compassion form the foundation of true education.

What is one lesson you will always remember from this school year?
I’ve learnt many lessons from my parents, teachers, and even my friends. One thing that my Hindi teacher always tells us is that we should help others selflessly. She says we must not expect rewards for every good deed. Sometimes we may not get anything in return, but that shouldn’t stop us from being kind. This thought really inspires me.
How do your parents support you in following the values taught at school?
My parents always say that human values are the foundation of everything. Academics and achievements don’t matter if we aren’t kind and respectful. They remind me to always use gentle and positive words because once spoken, words can’t be taken back. I’ve realised that kindness often changes others too — when we respond calmly, it encourages others to behave kindly as well.
How did you feel when you found out that you won the award?
I was completely surprised! I had seen some students receive the award when I was in Class 1 or 2 and wished that someday I could too. When my Hindi teacher told me that I was selected, I couldn’t believe it. It’s truly a dream come true for me.

What values of Dr Stya Paul inspire you the most?
I admire Dr Stya Paul Sir for his resilience and courage. Even though he faced physical challenges, he never gave up on his dream of spreading education. He once said, “It is not a disgrace if dreams are unfulfilled, but it is, if we have no dreams to dream!” His vision to build schools and educate young minds continues to inspire me every day.
What part of school life do you enjoy the most?
I love studying because our teachers make learning so interactive. They use examples and fun explanations that help us understand better. Apart from studies, I enjoy art and craft and doing science experiments with my teacher. Performing experiments makes me feel like a scientist!
