Human values are essential for students today. They lay the foundation for personal growth, ethical decision-making, and responsible citizenship. This prepares them for a successful life ahead. These values not only benefit the individuals but also contribute to a more compassionate and harmonious society.
Therefore, educational institutes like Apeejay Education are committed to the holistic development of students and ensure that they become ethical human beings with the highest standards of honesty, humility, and integrity. The students who personify and exhibit these values in their daily lives are awarded the prestigious and coveted Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values.
Meet one such student – Jasmehar Kaur Bhatti, a student at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi.
What was your reaction when you were selected for Dr Stya Paul Award?

I was quite confident I would win. This is because the interview and the written exam had gone well. Of course, at that time, I was not aware that this selection was for this prestigious award. When my name was finally called, I was thrilled. There are always other students who are just as deserving.
When did you know you had been selected?
I found out the day after my birthday while I was distributing sweets at school. I was asked to go to the Principal’s office. At first, my reaction was: Oh my God! What have I done wrong? Once at the office, I was informed and I almost jumped with joy.
Tell us about yourself.
I am, at present, in class VIII. I plan to pursue law. I am interested in law because my grandfather has a fondness for law and social studies. I too enjoy social studies and find it exciting to uphold people’s rights and learn new things constantly.
What are some values you have learnt from your parents?
I have been taught to be respectful and show gratitude, especially when it involves the elderly. I find so many kids who disrespect their parents and speak with them rudely. I appreciate the respectful upbringing my parents provided.

What inspires you about Dr Stya Paul?
I admire his limitless potential, the importance of consistency, and the idea of continually learning after reaching one’s goals.
What values has the school taught you?
The school has taught me discipline and helped me become more organised. The teachers at the school remind me to stay focused whenever I become distracted, helping me pay more attention.
Define human values.
Human values are essential for building character and personality, providing strength and confidence to be a good person.
Any charity or social work you are involved with?
Yes, I help the less privileged by donating clothes, pencils, colours, and other items that these kids may need. There is a nearby village where I donate household goods. Helping others fills me with a sense of fulfilment.
