Human values provide a moral and ethical base, equipping the child to meet the challenges of life with integrity, compassion, and a sense of responsibility. Attributes such as honesty and accountability help a child make the right decisions regarding academics, relationships, and personal interests and activities. Respect for diversity helps children appreciate cultural, religious, or background differences, thus creating an inclusive, harmonious atmosphere.

Apeejay Education believes in the all-round development of a student, grooming them to become honest, humble, and sincere. Human values are celebrated by conferring the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values on selected students. Students who pass their day-to-day lives in line with these ideals and set worthy examples for others receive this award.

Meet one such star student – Neil Yadav of class IX (academic year 2024-25) at Apeejay School, Nerul – who exudes such qualities, going beyond the walls of the school to make a difference.

How did you feel about receiving the Dr Stya Paul Award?

I felt deeply honoured and excited to have my name associated with Dr Stya Paul. It’s a significant achievement for me, as I admire his perseverance and contributions.

What role has the school played in my success?

I give full credit to my school and teachers for shaping who I am. They instilled discipline in me and taught me invaluable lessons through the school’s motto, Soaring High is My Nature.  The motto inspires me to never settle for less and to strive for growth in all aspects of life.

What Dr Stya Paul’s life inspires you?

I am inspired by Dr Stya Paul’s resilience and perseverance. Despite suffering from polio and facing financial challenges, he founded Apeejay Education Institutes, proving that determination can overcome even the toughest obstacles.

How has your mother influenced you?

My mother has been instrumental in teaching me self-discipline and resilience. Her strictness, which I now compare to sculpting a diamond, shaped me into a better person. I appreciate the long-term impact of her lessons on my life.

Any social or community work you are involved in?

Yes, I was part of the Interact Club in class VIII and later organised sessions in my colony to introduce students to Model United Nations (MUN). I shared my knowledge to encourage participation and help others develop their skills. I exchanged numbers and explained MUN rules and procedures to students of other schools which don’t have MUN. I highlighted its educational value and fun approach to global politics, making it an engaging experience for everyone.

How do you maintain discipline despite challenges?

With my father and brother in nautical science and rarely home, I promised to care for my mother and stay disciplined. Even when distractions arise, I focus on my studies, resisting temptations like social calls or mobile phones.

What are your aspirations?

I aspire to become the Minister of External Affairs. Inspired by leaders like Dr S Jaishankar, I see it as a big but achievable goal through dedication and perseverance.

What are your academic plans?

I plan to pursue Science in high school and focus on excelling academically. For now, I aim to secure good marks and remain a diligent student.

How do you view challenges and personal growth?

I see challenges as opportunities for growth. Discipline is the foundation of success, and I view setbacks as stepping stones to achieving greater milestones in life.
