Recently, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, celebrated a significant sporting milestone as its student, Divyadeep Sangwan, represented the district at the 58th Haryana State School Sports Competition held in Kaithal. His participation at the state level marks a noteworthy achievement for both the student and the school community.

He competed in the Under-17 cricket category, a space where most participants were older and more experienced. His selection for the state team reflects consistent performance at the district level and a growing command over the game. It also points to his ability to adapt and compete under pressure against stronger opposition.

The competition, organised by the Department of School Education, Haryana, brought together young athletes from across the state. Platforms like these play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing emerging talent. Divyadeep’s journey from district trials to the state arena highlights the value of disciplined training and sustained effort.

The school acknowledged the role of mentorship and support in shaping such outcomes. The school Principal, Dr Vineet Vasishtha, noted that sports build resilience and confidence alongside academic growth. He emphasised that achievements like these encourage other students to take up sports seriously and pursue their interests with commitment.

“Heartiest congratulations to Divyadeep for his stellar performance at the state level! Competing in the U-17 category as an 8th grader reflects extraordinary calibre and maturity. We strive to nurture such raw talent into excellence. This achievement is a badge of honour for our entire school community. We are immensely proud of your grit and sportsmanship. Keep aiming for the stumps,” Dr Vasishtha said.

In an impromptu interview, Divyadeep shared his journey and goals.

How did your interest in cricket start?

My interest in the game began when I performed well in school games and district matches. I was 7 years old when I started playing. Also, my father wanted to become a cricketer, but circumstances didn’t work in his favour. So I feel responsible to carry his dream forward.

How did your journey to the state level begin, and how did you prepare for it?

I had performed well in the district. That’s why the coaches named me at the state level. So my father trains me daily. Furthermore, I was the youngest in the team, only 14, so my performance was thrilling!

How do you manage your studies along with cricket?

I do all my classwork on that day itself. The teachers and the Principal have been very supportive. So, I am doing that, making the school proud and, later, making India proud!

What position do you play?

I am an all-rounder but prefer batting; my highest has been 73 off 41 balls. I enjoy playing the straight drive, and I consider Sachin Tendulkar my ideal. At present, I am practising for the national levels slated to be held later this year.
