Festivals in schools play a vital role in nurturing cultural awareness and fostering a sense of belonging among students. Celebrations like Baisakhi help children connect with their roots, appreciate diversity, and understand the deeper values embedded in traditions. They create a joyful environment where learning extends beyond textbooks into real-life cultural experiences.

Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, recently celebrated the vibrant festival of Baisakhi with immense enthusiasm and spirit. The school campus came alive with colours, music, and festive joy as students, teachers, and staff came together to honor this culturally significant occasion.

The day began with a special morning assembly dedicated to the festival. Students presented informative talks on the historical and cultural importance of Baisakhi, highlighting its dual significance — marking the harvest season and the formation of the Khalsa Panth in Sikh history. Through these presentations, students emphasised values such as gratitude for nature’s bounty, courage, and the spirit of unity.

A cultural extravaganza followed, with captivating performances that truly reflected the essence of Punjab. The audience was enthralled by the energetic Bhangra and graceful Giddha performances presented by the students, which showcased the richness of Punjabi folk traditions. Their vibrant attire and rhythmic moves added an extra layer of excitement and cultural flavor to the event.

In a beautiful display of linguistic diversity, students also recited poems and delivered speeches in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. Each presentation reflected the unity in diversity that Apeejay School proudly upholds.

The celebration reached its heartfelt conclusion with an inspiring message from the Principal, Ms Sangeeta Nistandra. She spoke about the core values symbolised by Baisakhi — gratitude, hard work, and community spirit — and encouraged students to imbibe these qualities in their daily lives. Her words left a lasting impression on everyone present, reinforcing the idea that festivals are not just celebrations, but reminders of the values that bind us together.

The Baisakhi celebration at this school was more than just an event; it was a beautiful expression of culture, learning, and unity. It offered students a memorable experience and a deeper appreciation for the heritage they are part of.
