The Interact Club of Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar recently organised a campaign to create awareness about the hazardous effects of plastic use. In tandem with Central Board of Secondary Education guidelines, the campaign ‘Say No to Plastic’ focused on the elimination of identified single-use plastic.

25 students of the Interact club of the school visited the village headman Mr Santokh Singh’s house in Narangpur village. Vice Principal of the school and Interact Club In-charge Mrs. Aarti Shorey Bhat along with Co-In charge Ms. Gurpreet Kaur accompanied the students.

A street play drawing light on the environmental damages caused by plastic use, was performed by the students. Banners bearing slogans related to the campaign were displayed at various spots in the village. Students informed the villagers that regular use of non-biodegradable plastic destroys soil fertility. Therefore they requested the village residents to give up the use of plastic bags.

Avneet Kaur, Student of class 12 and Head of Interact club added “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it! We all must do our bit”

As a second step towards this mission, a sapling and paper bags were presented to the village headman by the students with a promise to spread the awareness campaign to larger sections of the village.
