Doctors are the cornerstone of any thriving society — not just healers, but compassionate listeners, life-savers, and tireless warriors against disease. Carrying this noble thought, with a stethoscope in hand and dedication in his heart, he wants to serve patients across all ages and walks of life. Meet Rohan Dixit, who passed out from Apeejay School, Kharghar in 2024. In a candid interview, he shares how he wants to provide comfort, guide recovery, and instil hope in times of crisis.

What are you pursuing now after school?

I will be pursuing an MBBS course from a reputed Government medical college in Maharashtra. It has been my dream to become a doctor and serve the community. Securing admission into a government college is a proud moment for me and my family, and I’m excited for this new journey.

What innovations does the medical field need in India?

Innovations take place in the field of science every day. What we need is a change in the way that doctors work. Toxic work culture and gruelling hours need better solutions, which can only be brought by innovative youth willing to take a stand.

Why do you want to choose paediatrics as your specialisation?

Paediatrics is such a pure field that my heart went out to it immediately. Millions of children and parents suffer needlessly when a simple tablet can fix nearly all their problems. All I want to do is be the connection between a sick child and our nation’s future.

How were your teachers at school?

My teachers at school were the most amazing people. My Math teacher taught me the magic of numbers and taught me ways to love Math, which I never could have thought of. My English teacher brought out my love for English and classic literature. Biology teachers guided me through the prickly field of biology with steady guidance. My Physics teacher made the subject trivial by dissecting each doubt with infinite precision. And my Chemistry teacher has nurtured my love for chemistry in a way that I will remember forever.

How is AI helpful in the medical field?

AI can analyse pictures, scans and understand what is wrong with them in an instant. It can streamline the paperwork that plagues doctors. However, the touch of the human hand will never be taken over by AI in medicine. For if an AI makes a mistake, who is to blame? AI will forever serve to increase efficiency, but never replace the healthcare system in India.

Any message for present Apeejayites?

You are the future. Present yourself with the dignity and pride of knowing that, and yet be humble enough to learn when you do not know and malleable enough to adapt.
