Students who excel academically often follow disciplined routines, seek support from teachers and family, and maintain interests outside the classroom. Three students of Class VII-C of the academic year 2024-25 — Ronit Sharma Sarkar, Kavya Varshey, Divit Tyagi, and Vihaan Agrawal — reflect on how consistent study habits, conceptual understanding, and active engagement with both schoolwork and extracurriculars can shape successful academic journeys.
Ronit, who scored 97%, excluding the third language, said that his study strategy was quite balanced. “After school, I would come home, freshen up, have lunch, go out and play, and then study for two hours daily. I revised what was taught in class and practised Math regularly,” he said and added that the teachers helped immensely.
“They were always open to questions and clarified all my doubts patiently. I think it’s vital to ask questions in class, as no one may be available to help afterwards. Asking questions benefits us directly,” he shared.
Kavya, scoring 95.2%, excluding French as her third language, said that her strategy was mainly centred on re-reading and revisiting concepts in the textbook. “Going over the content multiple times helped me understand it better and discover small but important details that often appeared in exams,” she stated and added that she struggled a bit with Science and Math, but with more practice, she improved significantly.
“My teachers gave timely and constructive feedback, which I implemented seriously. I used the notes provided by teachers and referred to the textbook often. Assignments were extremely important too — they helped me prepare for internal assessments and also shaped how I managed my homework,” she added.
Divit said that his overall percentage was 95.2%. “I stayed regular and consistent with my studies. I didn’t find any subject particularly tough. Whenever I had questions, my teachers helped me resolve them. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing football and doing programming,” he shared.
Vihaan, who scored 93.5%, excluding his third language, was all about understanding the concepts rather than just memorising answers. “This helped, especially when the questions in exams were twisted or indirect. Initially, I scored lower in Unit Test 1, but once I focused more on theory, my performance improved. For Hindi, I practised daily by writing paragraphs and difficult words, taking dictation, and correcting my spelling mistakes through repetition,” he shared.
He credits his Hindi teacher for guiding him through this improvement method. “My parents also played a huge role — my mother explained concepts I couldn’t understand and helped with Olympiad preparation, while my father provided books, study material, and mock tests. I also enjoy swimming and have participated in competitions, recently getting selected for CBSE trials in the 50-metre freestyle event,” he said in conclusion.
