Graduating from PYP-5 marks an important milestone in the IB, as students celebrate their learning journey and prepare to transition into the Middle Years Programme. Meet one such student— Ayaan Kumar — at Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park. In a candid interview, he shares his journey thus far.
Which learner profile attribute do you think you developed the most?
The attribute I developed the most is ‘thinker’. This year helped me become more logical and reflective. I started thinking deeply about the topics we studied and learnt to approach problems more smartly.
Can you share an example of how you showed being a risk-taker or a thinker this year?
Here are some examples of being a risk-taker and a thinker. I always asked ‘why’ questions during lessons and stayed curious about every topic. In Math, I started solving problems in different ways instead of sticking to just one method.

What attribute do you still want to improve, and how?
I want to improve the communication attribute. I think my ideas are good, but sometimes I find it hard to express them clearly. I want to speak more confidently and articulate my thoughts.
How has your school helped you become a better researcher, communicator, or thinker?
My school has given me a lot of opportunities to grow. For instance, I did a project on Artificial Intelligence and transportation. I researched the future of AI in the transportation sector in India. The teachers encouraged me to use Internet in a guided way.
How did your exhibition project help you learn about yourself?
My exhibition project on AI in the transportation sector helped me realise how interested I am in technology. I discovered that I enjoy doing in-depth research.
Which transdisciplinary theme do you connect with most, and why?
I connect most with ‘inquirer’. It develops curiosity and makes learning exciting. It pushes me to dig deeper into topics and not stop at just the basics.
How did you apply your learning across different subjects?
English and Hindi helped me build my writing and communication skills. Math and Science improved my logical thinking and problem-solving. I also noticed that what I learnt in one subject often helped in another.
What is your most memorable learning moment?
My most memorable moment was the graduation ceremony. I received a trophy and certificate, and I also performed a song on stage. It was a very proud moment for me.
How do your family members support your learning?
My family supports me by helping with my studies and projects. They listen to my doubts and explain things patiently. Their support keeps me motivated and confident.
