Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park hosts session guiding parents on nurturing young minds

Recently, Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, organised a parenting session for nursery parents focusing on the formative years of a child’s development. The session, titled Nurturing Young Minds: Parenting in the Early Years, brought together educators, parents, and an expert voice to reflect on the role of early guidance in shaping a child’s future.

The event was graced by the esteemed Chief Guest, Dr Rajeev Bhatt, National Award winner for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Sarvshreshth Vyakti 2025) and a renowned psychologist specialising in learning disabilities.

The programme began with the lamp lighting and a welcome address by Vice-principal Ms Vandana Bansal, who set the tone by highlighting the importance of a collaborative journey between school and home. A ceremonial lamp lighting followed, marking the start of the academic year for young learners and their families.

The cultural segment added warmth to the event. Students presented a junior orchestra performance, followed by a dance on Kaliya Daman, reflecting themes of courage and resilience drawn from Indian mythology.

Dr Bhatt spoke about shifting focus from perfection to progress, encouraging parents to observe small developmental milestones rather than chase unrealistic expectations. He also underlined the role of consistent routines and the need to limit screen exposure in early childhood.

What stood out was his emphasis on modelling behaviour. He explained that children absorb values such as kindness and gratitude not through instruction but through everyday observation of adults.

The session also included reflections from existing parents. They shared how the school’s early years programme had supported both learning and emotional growth in their children, offering reassurance to new families beginning this journey.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Pre-primary In-charge Ms Rachna Jain, followed by the National Anthem. An informal lunch provided space for interaction and community building.

As schools increasingly recognise the importance of early childhood years, such sessions highlight a simple but lasting idea. Parenting, when guided with awareness and patience, becomes the first and most enduring form of education.
