Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, in collaboration with Gurugram Police, Haryana, successfully hosted a one-day orientation programme on New Criminal Laws. The session was aimed at acquainting students, particularly aspiring legal practitioners, with the recent reforms and practical implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Vijay Kumar, Associate Professor, School of Education, who also served as the event coordinator. He introduced the esteemed resource person, Inspector Shakuntla from Sohna Sadar Police Station, and her accompanying team to the audience.

Following this, Dr. Adnan, Assistant Professor, School of Legal Studies at ASU and co-coordinator of the event, provided a concise yet impactful overview of the BNS and BNSS. He highlighted the significance of these landmark legal reforms, contextualising their role in shaping modern jurisprudence and the professional responsibilities of future lawyers.
Inspector Shakuntla, along with her team, conducted the main orientation session. Their presentation was marked by clarity, real-life examples, and practical insights into how these laws are enforced at the ground level. Students were particularly engaged during the interactive Q&A round, where they posed thought-provoking questions on the implications, challenges, and societal impact of the new legal framework. The officers addressed each query in detail, ensuring conceptual clarity and enriching the learning experience.

In recognition of their invaluable contribution, the organizers felicitated Inspector Shakuntla and her team with mementos as a gesture of appreciation. The event concluded with a collective acknowledgement of the relevance of such initiatives in bridging the gap between academic knowledge and practical application.
The session received enthusiastic feedback from both students and faculty members, who lauded its informative nature and the clarity with which complex legal changes were explained. It was widely agreed that the orientation not only enhanced awareness but also strengthened students’ preparedness to navigate evolving legal landscapes.
