Choosing the right school for your child in India, as in any other country, is crucial because it plays a significant role in shaping their academic, social, and personal development. The quality of education varies among schools. Choosing a reputable school ensures that your child receives a well-rounded education, including strong academic programs, experienced teachers, and a curriculum that meets high standards.

While choosing a school based on personal experience can have its advantages, parents need to consider the present suitability of the school for their child’s needs and assess its present standing in terms of academic standards, extracurricular offerings, and overall educational environment. Parents are often familiar with the school’s environment, teachers, and overall culture. This familiarity can provide a sense of comfort and security for both the parents and the child.

If parents had a positive experience during their time at the school, they may believe that the same environment would be beneficial for their children. Positive memories and associations can influence this decision. Meet one such parent, Karanvir Singh, and his wife, Garima.

‘When it was time for my daughter Tapsee Kaur to start her formal education, we went with Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, since my husband is an alumnus of this school. The fact that we live nearby was also a big consideration,” says Garima.

Excerpts from the interview.

How and why did you choose this school for your daughter?

As I mentioned, my husband attended this branch of Apeejay School. The location was a major consideration. Also, the school continues to enjoy a good reputation to date. So, while we did look at other schools, we decided to enrol Tapsee here in the end.

What changes have you observed in your daughter since joining the school?

She was already confident, but now she’s more interactive and doing well in various activities. The school hosts various events like poetry, sports, and more. She’s now picking up driving and handling writing tasks better. Unlike other kids, who may not like going to school, Tapsee is unique; she loves going to school.

How about her friendships? Does she make friends easily?

Yes, she is comfortable and has made friends. We also celebrated her birthday recently in the school. That was a high point for my daughter.

What is the teaching methodology?

It is excellent. The teachers are wonderful here. I pick my daughter up daily and get feedback regularly. A planner tells us what is being taught in class and what will be taught that month. The planner helps me to keep track of her academic progress.

The teacher-student bond is crucial in the formative years. Do you maintain good contact with her teachers?

Definitely. Not only do I interact with her teachers when I go to pick up my daughter from school, but the PTMs that are held regularly give us detailed feedback.

What is your parenting mantra, especially during these formative years?

I follow a hands-off approach, not forcing her into anything, letting her decide what she wants to do. Guidance, not pressure, is my mantra.

Apeejay School believes in holistic development. Why is there stress on overall development?

The school focuses on extracurricular activities and practicals, not just academic grades. This is very necessary since the children need to have a well-rounded personality. Given the tough competition, just academics are not enough today.

Given your experience, would you recommend Apeejay School to other parents?

Yes, I have already recommended it to another parent, and they are also satisfied with this branch. Their child will start the session in April this year.
