Paridhi Bansal is an exceptional young poet from Apeejay School, Tanda Road in Jalandhar. At a tender age, she has beautifully captured the multifaceted nature of motherhood in her poem. She highlights how a mother seamlessly juggles numerous roles and responsibilities while being the emotional cornerstone of the family.

Selected as this week’s Apeejay Promising Poet, Paridhi shares her poetic journey and the significance of poetry in her life.

At what age did you start writing poetry?

I began writing poems at the age of 9, with my first poem being about mangoes.

And what inspired you to write poems?

I have always enjoyed expressing my thoughts through writing. Whenever a thought comes to mind, I pen it down, and it often transforms into a beautiful poem.

So what inspired your poem Mother?

My mother is a constant source of inspiration and motivation for me. This poem was my way of expressing my love and gratitude towards her.

Who is your favourite poet and what is your favourite poem?

My favorite poet is William Shakespeare, and my favorite poem is The Seven Ages of Man.

Do you prefer rhyme or free verse?

I enjoy incorporating rhymes into my poems to add a touch of elegance, but I write both rhyming and free verse poems.

And do you write poems during the day or night?

I usually write in the evening, reflecting on the events of the day, which helps me create richer poems.

Child tell us how does your school support your poetry writing?

My school encourages me to write and submit my work to the Apeejay newsroom. When my poems get published, it fills me with immense pride.

But how do you approach writing a poem? How much time does it take, and what themes do you explore?

Writing poetry is a form of relaxation for me. When I feel tired, I write poems. It typically takes me about 30 to 45 minutes to complete a poem. I write on topics that resonate with me, such as childhood and parks.

And finally what do you love most about writing poetry?

I love capturing my thoughts on paper. Writing poems brings me a profound sense of satisfaction and contentment.
