The Photography Club of Apeejay Institute of Design (AID) organised an engaging Photography Competition, offering students an opportunity to express their creativity and storytelling abilities through the lens. The event aimed to provide a vibrant platform where budding photographers could capture meaningful moments and translate them into compelling visual narratives.

Photography is often described as the art of freezing moments in time. Recognising the power of images to convey emotions and perspectives, the club invited students from all specialisations to participate in the competition. The initiative was designed not only to encourage creative expression but also to help amateur photographers refine their skills and move closer to professional standards.

Participants were asked to choose from two thought-provoking themes: ‘Culture Around Us’ and ‘Emotions in Frame.’ Each student was required to submit two photographs—one in colour and one in black and white. The competition challenged students to experiment with different styles, perspectives, and techniques while maintaining originality and narrative depth.

Students enthusiastically explored their surroundings and experiences to create photographs that reflected everyday culture and human emotions. They experimented with lighting, composition, and angles to capture images that could evoke feelings, tell stories, or spark thoughtful reflection among viewers. The activity encouraged participants to look beyond ordinary scenes and discover unique perspectives through the camera.

The competition was coordinated by student volunteers Anchal Jain from GDP II Semester Foundation and Radhika Arora from GDP IV Semester Graphics. Their efforts ensured the smooth organisation of the event and encouraged wider participation from students across disciplines.

A large number of entries were received under both categories, showcasing the diverse creativity of students. Each photograph was carefully evaluated based on several parameters, including creativity, composition, relevance to the chosen theme, and the overall impact of the image. The judging process highlighted the impressive ability of participants to convey stories and emotions through simple yet powerful visuals.

The results of the competition were announced after careful evaluation. In the Colour Category, Sharon Rai from GDP IV Semester Graphic Design secured the first position, while Samra Saifi from GDP IV Semester Interior Design was awarded the second position. In the Black and White Category, Sharon Rai once again achieved the first position, demonstrating exceptional artistic vision and technical skill. The second position in this category was awarded to Anchal Jain from GDP II Semester Foundation.

The winners were recognised and rewarded for their creative excellence. Selected photographs will also be showcased to a wider audience, giving students an opportunity to present their work beyond the classroom.

The competition successfully celebrated the power of photography as a medium of expression while inspiring students to explore creativity, storytelling, and artistic experimentation through their lenses.

Adding her thoughts, Sharon Rai of AID expressed, “The photography competition was based on two topics:Culture and Emotions”. My two photographs captured happiness and care. One showing a child’s pure joy, and the other, taken in Chandni Chowk, a quiet moment of love and protection. It helped me observe everyday moments more closely and understand how emotions can be expressed through simple visuals. I also learned how composition and choice of colours can change the mood of an image. It was a thoughtful experience.”
