Fathers play a crucial role in a child’s life, providing guidance, love, and support. They contribute to the child’s emotional well-being, cognitive development, and social skills. Fathers serve as role models, imparting values, instilling confidence, and fostering healthy relationships, shaping their children’s future success and happiness.

And thus to celebrate the contribution of each father, who is an epitome of love and unconditional support, Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) alumnus Kunwar Raj Singh along with Speed Records launched a Punjabi video song Baapu on the special occasion of Father’s Day. The video song has been directed by passionate filmmaker’s production company Filmy Boys’.

The concept
The idea was to showcase the crucial role fathers play as a breadwinner of his family. The filmmaker who has shot four Bollywood movies including Baadshaho, Soorma, Romeo Akbar Walter (R.A.W.) and Attack, extends his gratitude mentioning, “Thank you to Dinesh sir from Speed Records for choosing us for this special song. When we at Filmy Boys heard the song for the first time, our initial thought was how to create the video that would encapsulate a father’s dedication as the bread earner for the family. We sometimes fail to realise how much our father’s are working hard. Thus, the idea was to showcase a father’s sacrifice and hard work. After that we build on this idea and took it to Mr. Yasir Hussain, the singer of this song. When he heard the concept, he got goosebumps. He hugged us and told us to go ahead with the concept.”
When asked why he chose to direct this video,Kunwar Raj explained, “There are very few songs made on father’s and getting a chance to direct a music video on this relationship is special. So we purposely shot this video with non-actors to get raw and actual expressions. It was difficult initially because all the lights and film camera were pretty new to those kids. But we loved what we got in the end. They did a fantastic job. Yasir sir also played his character in a fantastic way. He’s an amazing actor and understands what is required of every shot.”

A video with a special touch
For the filmmaker and director, be it Father’s Day or Mother’s Day, each holds a special space in his heart. He expressed, “I know many people say there shouldn’t be one day to celebrate Father’s or Mother’s Day and every day is their day. But no, I think there should be such special days when you can go beyond to actually appreciate the love and guidance they give us. I just wanted to take that extra step. In fact, what I am doing today is because of the unconditional support of my father; whatever I am today is because of him. So it indeed is a special day for me.”

Learning on the go
The music video of Baapu is on YouTube and the audio is available on every music platform including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, JioSaavn, Gaana, to name a few. Kunwar Raj further adds, “We learn something new with every shoot day. Shooting with kids and that too non-actors was a challenge but I loved it. I guess I’ve learnt a bit of babysitting too in this project. (laughs)
What’s next?
Filmy Boys is coming up with its first web series with The Landers, the musical group. “We’re shooting it in the later half of this year. Will disclose more details soon.”
