In alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises learning by doing, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, organised a vibrant pre-primary experiential learning activity recently. The highlight of the event was a creatively staged play by the students of Class II, centred on the theme “Aeroplane and Airport Working.” The activity aimed to move beyond textbooks, fostering holistic and joyful learning while giving students first-hand exposure to real-world scenarios.
The classroom was transformed into a lively airport environment, complete with check-in counters, boarding gates, and seating arrangements. Students enthusiastically took on roles such as air hostesses, passengers, security staff, and ground crew, demonstrating impressive imagination, teamwork, and confidence. Through this engaging simulation, the young learners experienced airport procedures, in-flight etiquette, and the daily workings of air travel, enhancing their conceptual understanding practically and enjoyably.
A particularly engaging scene involved an air hostess interacting with passengers, making announcements, delivering safety instructions, checking tickets, and guiding passengers. Through role play and dialogue delivery, students developed communication skills, expanded their vocabulary, and built confidence while learning the importance of cooperation, patience, and social interaction. Teachers acted as facilitators, guiding while allowing students the freedom to explore, express, and immerse themselves in their roles.
The activity also encouraged critical thinking and creativity. Students had to navigate real-life situations like passenger inquiries, luggage handling, and boarding procedures, which required problem-solving and adaptability. Such hands-on experiences are at the heart of NEP 2020’s vision, emphasising practical understanding, curiosity-driven learning, and skill development from an early age.
Parents and staff appreciated the event, noting the enthusiasm, confidence, and engagement displayed by the young learners. Many expressed delight at seeing students actively participate in an immersive learning experience that combined fun with education, reinforcing the school’s commitment to holistic development. The activity seamlessly integrated language skills, life skills, and experiential learning, demonstrating how education can be both meaningful and memorable.
Reflecting on the event, the school Principal, Dr Vineet Vasishtha, said, “The experiential learning activity beautifully reflected the spirit of NEP 2020 by placing students at the centre of the learning process. Watching our young learners confidently enact real-life airport scenarios was truly heartening. Hands-on activities foster curiosity, creativity, and practical understanding. I congratulate the teachers and students for their commendable effort and reaffirm Apeejay School’s commitment to meaningful, joyful, and experiential education.”
The airport-themed activity is part of Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri’s ongoing efforts to nurture independent thinking and prepare students for real-world understanding from an early age. By emphasising experiential learning, creativity, and skill-building, the school continues to make education an engaging, enjoyable, and enriching journey for every student, ensuring that learning extends far beyond the pages of textbooks.
