Srishthi Bag is a brilliant student-artist from Apeejay School, Saket. You can see the ‘kaarigari’ her hand possesses in the drawing of ‘The two fishes’ she has recently completed.

Selected without a second thought in this week’s Aspiring Artist series, let us read what the young budding artist has to share with the world. Read edited excerpts:
Have you been drawing since you were a toddler?
Yes! I started drawing at the age of 5. It is my favourite activity and it helps me learn so much about the world around me.
So, which art form has fascinated you the most and why?
Mandala and Madhubani art forms are my favourite ones because those help me to learn more about my culture and tradition.

And how does your school support you as an artist?
My school has always been supportive towards me as an artist by notifying me about the upcoming art competitions. The school teachers encourage me so much and this gives me the confidence to explore art more in depth.
Every artist has their view on art. What’s yours?
According to me, art is something which is created with imagination and skill, it is something very beautiful and it expresses important ideas or feelings.
Very nicely put! So how much time does it take you to complete an artwork?
An artwork takes me approximately an hour to finish. The themes can be based upon several topics such as festivals, landscapes, portraits and much more. The landscapes can be based on any particular thing such as birds, waterfalls among other things.

Lovely! So what are the upcoming artworks about?
They are based on landscapes again. (laughs)
Alright! Now tell us about a new artform you wish to learn?
I wish to learn Gond art which is a native art form of Madhya Pradesh. It is so amazing I simply can’t express it. It is so beautiful. I really wish to learn it soon.
Lastly, hobbies apart from art?
Dancing – it is the best de-stresser.
