Elbert Green Hubbard, the celebrated American writer, publisher, artist, and philosopher said, “Positive anything is better than negative nothing.”
Certainly, a positive mind is a home of virtuous thinking and the right attitude. With this mindset, one can achieve great heights and overcome all odds. Moreover, positivity attracts affirmative results. So, spreading positivity in your peer group is an excellent way to start. It will build a supportive and uplifting environment because those who are surrounded by positivity feel more motivated, inspired, and confident. Eventually, it leads to increased productivity, happiness, and overall well-being.
So, here are ten ways on how to begin. Read on.
1. Start with yourself: The first step to spreading positivity in your peer group is to start forging a change in your outlook. Make sure that you have a positive attitude and mindset. Also, focus on the good things in your life, practice gratitude and look for opportunities to make a positive impact.
2. Be kind: Kindness is contagious and it can have a significant impact on people’s lives. So, practice random acts of kindness, such as offering to help someone with a task, complimenting someone on their work, or simply smiling and saying hello.
3. Listen actively: Listening is an essential skill that can help build stronger relationships and improve communication. When someone speaks to you, listen actively by giving them your full attention, asking questions, and responding with empathy.
4. Give genuine compliments: Compliments can make someone’s day, so be generous with them. Make sure that your compliments are genuine and specific. For example, instead of saying, “You’re great,” say, “I really appreciate how you always go the extra mile on projects.”
5. Celebrate successes: Celebrate the achievements of your peers, no matter how big or small. Acknowledge their wins, congratulate them, and party with them.
6. Encourage growth: Motivate your peers to grow and develop by supporting their goals and aspirations. Offer feedback, advice and guidance when asked and be a sounding board for their ideas.
7. Be inclusive: Make sure that everyone in your peer group feels included and valued. Invite everyone to participate in activities and conversations, and make an effort to get to know people who may be more reserved or introverted.
8. Offer support: Be there for your peers when they need support. Whether it’s a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, or practical help with a task, offer your support in a genuine and compassionate way.
9. Focus on solutions: When faced with a challenge or problem, focus on answers rather than dwelling on the negative aspects. Encourage your peers to brainstorm ideas and work together to find new ways to deal with it.
10. Spread positivity beyond your peer group: Finally, remember that positivity is contagious as well and can spread beyond your peer group. Share your positive attitude and actions with others and inspire them to do the same.
According to a student, Roopanshi Marwaha from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg in Jalandhar, “Even if someone puts in 1% effort in making positive changes in their lives, it will compound for a huge number by the end of the year.” She actively reads self-help books to change the way she would react to problems and difficult situations. The book she recommends to all is: Atomic Habits: An Easy and Proven Way to Build Good Habits and Break Bad Ones by James Clear.
Sharing his pearls of wisdom for students, Mr Sujeet Eric Masih, Principal at Apeejay School, Saket in Delhi says, “Have faith in yourself and your efforts. No good work done gets wasted. It is only the time that will turn around to your favour.”
So, spreading positivity amongst each other is a powerful way to create a supportive environment. You can make a huge impact on the lives of those around you.
