For Mr Bhanupartap Sehgal, Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar is not just a school but a treasure chest of golden memories. Having studied here from nursery to Class 12, he recalls the classrooms, sports fields, and the guiding words of his teachers with deep affection. In this conversation, he revisits his school days and reflects on how those years shaped his life. Read edited excerpts:

As an alumnus, how do you look back on your school years?
Those were the best moments of my life. I studied here from nursery till class 12 and passed out in 1993. The friendships, the atmosphere, and the guidance from teachers are unforgettable.

Having seen the school evolve over the years, what stands out for you?

It’s a wonderful institution, and that’s why I dreamt that my children should also study here. Even today, the love and affection from teachers remains the same. Some of my teachers from my batch still recognise me—it feels like home.

Which academic interests defined your school life?

I was good at mathematics, and after class 10, my board exam results encouraged me to take the non-medical stream, though I initially considered commerce. That shift shaped my academic journey.

What role did extracurriculars play in your school life?

A big role! I was sports captain and excelled in athletics—100m, 200m, and shot put. I also played football and kabaddi. On the creative side, I enjoyed drawing; my posters often represented the inter-house games.

Is there any advice from your teachers you still carry with you?

Yes. I still follow their advice and say the same to all. Be true to yourself, give your 100%, and the results will follow. The teachers were very dedicated and caring.

Any life lessons for current students?

Stay focused, explore opportunities, and don’t get lost in gadgets. Participate in sports, stay active, and enjoy school life—it builds lifelong health and memories.
