The power of design is immense – it can tell people an engaging narrative and connect with their emotions. And so in the realm of graphic design, where creativity knows no bounds, the integration of 3D designs has emerged as a crucial and transformative element. Traditional two-dimensional graphics have long been a staple, but the introduction of 3D design has ushered in a new era of possibilities. As Apeejay alumnus Alok Jha explains “3D designs are very essential in graphics to make concepts more clear and look realistic. It can express a clean and clear image of any product to which viewers are able to connect.”
Alok, who is a Graphic Designer with Instahyre, further explains how gradients used in 3D elements give the design more depth and detailing which is needed in some designs. “3D illustration and 3D modeling is widely used in design nowadays to make it more appealing and give aesthetic beauty to the design, which helps the viewers to understand all the aspects of design. Also there is a mix of 2D and 3D elements together in design to make designs look more beautiful and balanced,” Alok highlights.
In line with the above-mentioned context, let’s delve into the reasons why 3D design is not just important but essential in modern graphic design.
Visual depth and realism: 3D design adds depth and a sense of realism to graphics that 2D design often struggles to achieve. This depth can captivate viewers, making them feel more engaged with the content. Whether it’s product visualisation, architectural rendering, or character design, 3D graphics breathe life into the static world of design.
Versatility: 3D design is incredibly versatile. It can be used in a wide range of applications, from advertising and marketing to video games, film, and product design. Its adaptability makes it a valuable tool for designers looking to create immersive and dynamic visuals.
Enhanced brand identity: For businesses, 3D design is a game-changer in establishing a unique brand identity. It enables companies to present their products and services in a more compelling and memorable way. Brands that embrace 3D design often stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Storytelling: Graphic design is all about telling a story or conveying a message. 3D design adds an extra layer to storytelling by allowing designers to create intricate scenes and environments. Whether it’s telling the history of a brand or presenting a narrative in a video game, 3D graphics enhance storytelling capabilities.

More and more innovation: As technology advances, so does the demand for cutting-edge design. Embracing 3D design positions graphic designers on the cutting edge of their field. It’s a skill that aligns with the trajectory of design and ensures that designers remain relevant in a rapidly evolving industry.
Engagement and interaction: Integration of 3D design is fostering higher levels of engagement and interaction. Through interactive 3D models, users are able to explore products or concepts from different angles, increasing user engagement and understanding.
All in all, 3D design is not just a good element in graphic design; it’s a transformative force that has become indispensable. Therefore, as the design landscape continues to evolve, 3D design will undoubtedly play an increasingly pivotal role in shaping the visual world around us.
