Recently, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, organised an insightful career counselling session for students of Classes IX to XI. The session featured Colonel K Sandeep, a distinguished defence officer from Charkhi Dadri. His presence created an immediate sense of interest and curiosity in the hall, as students settled in to learn about careers shaped by discipline, purpose, and national service.
Students often hear about the armed forces but rarely understand what the journey actually looks like. Colonel Sandeep bridged this gap with stories from his years in uniform. He spoke about courage, discipline, and the commitment that guides every soldier. His simple explanations helped students see how the Army, Navy, and Air Force offer many paths, from aviation to medical services, from engineering to logistics and administration.
Pathways to join the Defence Services
A key part of the session focused on helping students understand how to enter the defence forces. Colonel Sandeep explained routes such as NDA, CDS, TES, AFCAT and other technical entries. He also spoke about the need for steady academics, strong fitness and mental readiness while preparing for these exams. His thoughts on setting clear goals and staying disciplined struck a chord with the students.

The session then moved into the practical steps. Let’s break it down and explain the entry routes.
· National Defence Academy
· Combined Defence Services
· Technical Entry Scheme
· Air Force Common Admission Test
· Various technical and merit-based entries
The Colonel made each pathway easy to understand. Students learned how mental strength, fitness, and consistent study habits shape a strong foundation for defence exams. What this really means is that choosing this career requires focus and a clear sense of purpose.
The interaction gained pace when the question session began. Students raised thoughtful queries about eligibility, lifestyle, career progression, and everyday life in the forces. The Colonel answered every question with patience. His clarity helped students understand what a career in the defence sector demands and what it gives in return.

School leadership’s appreciation
The school Principal, Dr Vineet Vasishtha, expressed appreciation for the session. He shared how such interactions open meaningful avenues for students and nurture leadership, confidence, and patriotic spirit.
The session ended with a heartfelt vote of thanks. Many students left the hall feeling motivated and better informed. Several shared that the session helped them see the defence sector not just as a job, but as a path filled with service, pride, and purpose.
