Holidays offer a much-needed break from the year’s work, providing a chance to spend quality time with loved ones and explore new places, creating lasting memories. Winter holidays, typically spanning late December to early January, encompass major celebrations like Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
This year, my family and I chose to spend our winter holidays in Goa, sparking much excitement. However, an amusing and slightly nerve-wracking incident occurred on the day we were to board the train. Despite initial challenges with cab availability and luggage space, we eventually set off, with my sister, mother, and I in one cab, and my dad in another.
Upon reaching Panvel station, our excitement grew, but we realised my dad hadn’t arrived yet due to heavy traffic. Worried that we might miss our train, we anxiously awaited his arrival. Fortunately, luck was on our side, and he made it just in time, allowing us to board the train.
The following day, December 24, was my birthday, that we celebrated for the first time on a train. Upon reaching Goa, we stayed at the Colmar Resort, located just 500 meters from Colva beach. The day was spent collecting shells, enjoying the beach, and witnessing a breathtaking sunset.
On December 25, we ventured to Agonda beach at 7:00 am, taking a boat ride to Butterfly beach, where crystal-clear waters and dolphin sightings captivated us. A visit to Palolem beach followed, featuring a backwater ride and eagle feeding. Exploring local markets added a touch of charm to our trip.
December 26 took us to Mardol, visiting Shri Mahalasa Narayani Temple and Shri Mangeshi Temple, significant to our family. On December 27, we experienced the majestic Dudhsagar waterfall in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, enjoying a jeep safari and a refreshing dip in the lake below.
The next day, we explored North Goa, covering Miramar Beach, Baga Beach, Calangute Beach, and the capital, Panjim. Returning to Mumbai by train, we appreciated the beauty along the Konkan Railways Track and the service provided by IRCTC’s “Food on Track” app.
While returning home, a mix of happiness and sadness enveloped me – happy to be back in my sweet home, but sad to leave behind the memories of Goa. It was indeed a fantastic family vacation, fostering bonding and providing a connection to our roots and culture. The winter season’s charm added to the joy of rising early and experiencing the beauty of the sunrise.
