In the IB framework, Individuals & Societies (I&S) holds a special place. It not only builds academic understanding but also nurtures global citizens who can think critically, empathise deeply, and act responsibly.

At Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, this philosophy came alive during I&S Week 2025, celebrated with a vibrant mix of activities across the PYP, MYP, and DP segments. The week showcased how inquiry and service can empower students to become changemakers for a better tomorrow.

Day 1: Threads of Humanity – The Story Quilt & Policymaking

The celebrations began with a burst of creativity. MYP-1–5 students collaborated on a symbolic artwork titled “Threads of Humanity – Our Story Quilt.” Each learner contributed an individual square reflecting their personal values, hopes, and ideas for the world. When stitched together, the quilt stood as a powerful metaphor of unity in diversity, showing how different perspectives weave into one shared human story. The activity was led by the I&S Department under the guidance of Ms Sanya, Mr Atul, Ms Heena, and Ms Iknoor.

Simultaneously, MYP 5 students stepped into the shoes of policymakers, engaging in a challenging exercise of drafting frameworks and strategies to tackle global challenges. From climate change to economic reforms, they explored the complexity of policymaking and sharpened their problem-solving skills. This activity gave students a taste of leadership while grounding them in the values of responsibility and innovation.

Day 2: Debates on Global Issues

Critical thinking took centre stage on Day 2 with engaging debates aligned to the IB global context of globalisation and sustainability.

  • MYP-2 learners debated on the motion: Social media is more harmful than useful,” weighing its influence on education, communication, and mental health.
  • MYP-3–5 students deliberated on “Economic development is more important than protecting India’s forests,” a nuanced discussion balancing growth with sustainability.

The sessions encouraged teamwork, use of evidence, rebuttal skills, and persuasive delivery — empowering students to see issues through multiple perspectives.

Day 3: Youth Parliament

A high-energy Youth Parliament session brought together students from MYP-3 to DP-2. The focus was on the impact of US tariffs on India — a pressing real-world issue. Students role-played as parliamentarians, presenting solutions, debating policies, and learning the art of negotiation. This immersive activity deepened their understanding of democracy, policymaking, and civic engagement while inspiring them to see themselves as leaders of tomorrow.

Day 4: Community Spirit in Action

The week culminated in acts of compassion and inspiration. The whole school participated in a Food Donation Drive, collecting an impressive 160 kg of non-perishable items for underprivileged families. The initiative reflected the true spirit of empathy, kindness, and shared responsibility.

Alongside, PYP students engaged in a Goal-setting exercise with UNICEF, identifying global goals and understanding how even young learners can contribute to building a better world. Their enthusiasm showed that age is no barrier when it comes to becoming changemakers.

Finally, the week closed on a high note with an inspiring guest lecture by Mr Shivam, Regional Head of Robin Hood Army. He shared how communities can unite to fight hunger and mobilise resources for social good, leaving students deeply motivated to take collective action.

The I&S Week 2025 was more than just a series of activities; it was an immersive journey of learning, reflection, and service. From building critical thinking through debates and parliament sessions to fostering empathy through community initiatives, students experienced the essence of the IB philosophy — preparing not just for exams, but for life.

The school extends heartfelt gratitude to all parents for their support and encouragement, as together we continue nurturing future leaders who value inquiry, unity, and service to society.
